Spanish from Spain
I am from Asturias, in the north of Spain, and I teach the Spanish I speak. It is understood everywhere Spanish is spoken.
Is Spanish from Spain different?
Spanish is one language, and people from different countries understand each other without problems. There are some differences, and I will always point them out so you can understand and be understood anywhere.
Some differences you may notice
- Vosotros: in Spain we use vosotros to talk to a group of friends. In Latin America people use ustedes.
- Vocabulary: for example ordenador (Spain) and computadora (Latin America), or móvil and celular for the mobile phone.
- Pronunciation: in most of Spain, z and c before e or i sound like the English "th". In Latin America they sound like "s".
Which one should you learn?
Learn the one you will use most, and do not worry: the grammar and most of the vocabulary are the same. If you plan to travel, work or live in Spain, lessons with a teacher from Spain will help you feel at home from the start.
